The first step in staircase renovation starts with deciding on the desired step shape. In addition to a straight front edge, fedi also offers a styled front edge. As with the selection of the staircase design, the same applies here: The right choice is something you like that works with the style of the interior design. A styled front edge lends itself more to an interior design style that is more traditional, whereas a straight front edge looks more modern. This issue is also relevant when it comes to choosing the shape of the railings and lighting

Natural features combined with the benefits of innovative material features – aside from the visual characteristics of the natural product, the fedi stair systems also stand out due to a natural feel. The materials are also very durable, resistant and easy to clean. Their durability can be seen, not least in the high quality features.

Load class 32 in accordance with EN 13329, AC4 for CPL laminate, reaction to fire B1 (flame-retardant) in accordance with DIN 4102, shock-resistant in accordance with EN 438

Wood

The tangible surface structure recreates real wood. The characteristic wood grain gives the stairs a high quality appearance and makes them appear almost natural – not to mention good slip-resistance.

Stone

The stone designs don’t just visually create the impression of stability and durability. This surface stands out due to its durability and is also particularly slip-resistant – in combination with white riser steps – this design is a real eyecatcher.

In order that the new stair design can seamlessly fit within the old staircase system the stairs need to be measured precisely both in terms of shape and dimensions.

Step 1

After numbering consecutively it depends on the type of the particular step. Differences between the three types of steps: In addition to a rectangular step shape for the staircase area (step type 1) there is also a rectangular shape with different side lengths for spiral staircases (step type 2) as well as a pentagonal step shape for the corner area of the stairs (step type 3).

Step 2

In order to make the waste from spiral staircases as minimal as possible, the modular dimensions need to be noted. This means that the individual types of steps are divided into 3600 mm long panels in shape and size – seven different cutting lengths are variably adjusted to the size of the step.

What is special: fedi offers single and double steps in modular dimensions. With stairs that are made up exclusively of type 1 steps, modular dimensions are used for individual steps. With spiral staircases the individual type 2 and type 3 steps can be practically laid over one another before cutting in order to save additional material and costs.

Step 3

Before the staircase renovation can begin with the assembly of the stepping surfaces the measured data – as illustrated below by way of example – must be transferred into the measurement table.

A completely new ambience clearly emerges in the room after the assembly of the riser steps in the chosen design. The riser steps to be installed in parallel with the vertical trim of the steps work together to create a harmonious look.

Riser steps

The 10 mm thick riser steps can be chosen to fit with the decor of the remaining stairs or you could choose two different colours also offered by fedi. Available in white or aluminium coloured, the riser steps create an appealing contrast to the rest of the stairs and create a dynamic overall impression.

Now it is all about the detailed work: casing the open gaps and joints at the edge area of the staircase. It doesn’t matter if the steps are between two walls or if one side is open to the living room, framing profiles or side covers are attached

The special framing innovation from fedi: The robust flexible laminate, which the material is covered with makes the framing very stable and durable.

If the staircase doesn’t have high framing or if it is not desired, there is another acceptable solution that can be used: skirting boards. These are cut as you want them to be or simply placed horizontally one after the other.

Alternatively a riser step up to 3.60 m in length can be used as a lateral trim. With the help of a previously manufactured tailored template the edge area is transformed into an eyecatcher and can be covered in one piece.

Skirting boards

Available with a straight edge or a styled front edge, the skirting creates a desired sleek or dynamic impression of the renovated stairs.

Coverings

The side wood finishing of the stairs is, of course, tailored to the rest of the design. You either select a suitable cover in a matching shape and colour or you choose something to create a contrast.

Would you like to set the scene for your freshly renovated stairs in a punchy and impressive way? Use the unique options provided by our LED light technology and create the perfect impression. And as a pleasant side effect – every staircase with LED light technology from fedi also becomes a little bit safer.

The stainless steel flush-mounted lights in three sizes are strong, durable and have an installation depth of just 7 mm. This means that the lights cannot just be installed on the side of the frame casing, but also on the steps themselves.

Or fedi also offers 34 cm LED tubular lights. They offer continuous lighting under the front edge.

Fedi offers a very special solution to controlling the LED lighting, which doesn’t require any further installation. A remote transmitter provides maximum user convenience. The light can be turned on and off wirelessly.

The necessary cables and wires can be positioned in the frame casing under the treads without any problems – even before the treads and riser steps are assembled at the start of the staircase renovation.
